- What kind of information will the insurance companies ask me or be interested in?
- What rate (or price) can I qualify for?
- What can I do to help ensure that I get the “best life insurance” for me?
So, without further ado, let’s dive right in!
Can I qualify for life insurance after I’ve been prescribed Buspar?
One of the benefits of using a prescription medication like Buspar or Buspirone to treat one’s anxiety or anxiety symptoms is that it is NOT a medication that is known to trigger an automatic response from most insurance underwriters. In fact, some folks may even be able to qualify for a no medical exam term life insurance policy as well.
Sure…
Most (if not all) traditional life insurance carriers are going to want to know more about “why” you’ve been prescribed Buspar, but they’re not automatically going to assume that because of it’s prescription that you won’t be able to “theoretically” qualify for a Preferred or Preferred Plus rate. Which is great! But they’re still going to want to know more about “why” you were prescribed Buspar or, more specifically, how severe or mild your anxiety symptoms are.
Why do life insurance companies care if I’ve been prescribed Buspar?
Life insurance companies aren’t all that concerned about the fact that you’ve been prescribed Buspar. Sure, there are some side effects one should be aware of regarding using Buspar such as:
- Dizziness,
- Nausea,
- Headaches,
And general fatigue, but let’s face it, these aren’t issues that are generally going to concern a life insurance underwriter all that much. Rather, what they are more concerned about is the underlying medical condition which Ativan is being used to treat. Mainly your Anxiety.
You see…
For individuals who have been diagnosed with Anxiety, it’s quite possible that they may experience a wide variety of symptoms, including (but not limited too):
- Fatigue,
- Restlessness,
- Hypervigilance or irritability,
- Excessive worrying,
- Excessive fear,
- Feeling of impending doom,
- Insomnia
- Etc…
And while some of these “symptoms” might not seem too serious, in some cases, they can become quite debilitating, which is something that will definitely cause some concern to an insurance underwriter whose job it is to assess risk!
This is why…
What you’re typically going to find is that once an insurance company learns that you’ve been prescribed Buspar in the past or have been diagnosed with Anxiety, they’re typically going to want to ask you a series of questions so that they might have a better understanding about how severe your condition may be.
What kind of information will the insurance companies ask me or be interested in?
Common questions you might be ask may include:
- When were you first prescribed Buspar?
- Who prescribed your Buspar to you? A primary care physician or a specialist?
- How long have you been taking your Buspar?
- Is Buspar the only medication that you are taking to treat your Anxiety?
- How often do you take Buspar? Daily? Weekly? Or only on occasion?
- Do you generally feel anxious all of the time, or are there certain environmental triggers that cause you to become anxious?
- In the past 12 months, has your Ativan prescription changed at all?
- Have you ever been hospitalized due to any of your anxiety symptoms?
- Are you currently working now?
- In the past 12 months, have you applied for or received any form of disability benefits?
From here, what you’re generally going to find is that most insurance companies will usually have a pretty good idea about how “serious” your pre-existing medical condition is and whether they may need to order medical records from your doctor before proceeding.
We here at IBUSA…
Will also have a pretty good idea about what “kind” of life insurance policy you will and won’t be able to qualify for as well as “which” life insurance company will likely give you the best opportunity for success.
What rate (or price) can I qualify for?
As we’ve previously stated, individuals using Buspar to treat mild to moderate cases of Anxiety should still theoretically be able to qualify for a “Preferred” life insurance rate provided that they choose to apply with a life insurance company that is known to be “lenient” when it comes to underwriting applicants who are applying with pre-existing medical conditions such as Anxiety.
Now for folks…
With more severe cases that may have required previous hospitalizations or have directly interfered with your ability to hold steady employment or function “normally”, what you’re generally going to find is that it’s all going to come down to “how severe” your case is. In cases like these what we’re aiming at is being able to get someone approved at a Standard or Normal rate however some insurance companies may be unwilling to provide traditional coverage which will make us have to take a look at some alternative products such as a guaranteed issue life insurance policies or an accidental death policies.
