Life Insurance for Baclofen users.
In this article, we wanted to take a moment to answer some of the most common questions we get from folks applying for life insurance after being prescribed Baclofen or one of its brand names:
- Lioresal,
- Gablofen,
to help them treat and/or manage muscle spasms.
Questions that will be directly addressed will include:
- Can I qualify for life insurance after I’ve been prescribed Baclofen?
- Why do life insurance companies care if I’ve been prescribed Baclofen?
- What kind of information will the insurance companies ask me or be interested in?
- What can I do to help ensure that I get the “best life insurance” for me?
So, without further ado, let’ dive right in!
Can I qualify for life insurance after I’ve been prescribed Baclofen?
Having been prescribed Baclofen on its own should NOT necessarily keep an individual from being able to qualify for a traditional term or whole life insurance policy. If fact, simply having been prescribed Baclofen shouldn’t necessarily have any effect on the outcome of your life insurance application at all.
Which is why…
Some individuals who have been prescribed Baclofen may be able to qualify for a No Medical Exam Life Insurance Policy at a Preferred rate!
The problem is…
That while Baclofen isn’t a medication used to treat a “life-threatening” medical condition, it is used to treat muscle spasm, which can often be symptoms of other rather serious medical conditions. Medical conditions which could potentially keep one from being able to qualify for coverage.
Why do life insurance companies care if I’ve been prescribed Baclofen?
The main reason why life insurance companies “care” if an individual has been prescribed Baclofen is because Baclofen is commonly used to help treat muscle spasms caused by “certain” conditions such as Multiple sclerosis , Spinal cord injuries, or any disease which could affect the spinal cord or central nervous system.
And if…
This is “why” you’ve been prescribed Baclofen, then the fact that you have been prescribed Baclofen isn’t going to be the most critical factor in determining whether or not you’re going to be eligible for coverage. Instead, the underlying medical condition which has caused you to begin suffering from muscle spasms will be.
This is why…
Once an insurance company notices that you’ve been prescribed Baclofen, they’re likely going to want to ask you a series of questions about your Baclofen prescription so that they can get a better idea of whether or not you’ll be an acceptable risk to them.
What kind of information will the insurance companies ask me or be interested in?
As it pertains to one’s Baclofen prescription, the only really important question that a life insurance company is going to want to ask is…
- What is the reason for your muscle spasms?
- Have you been diagnosed with some pre-existing medical condition causing you to suffer from them?
Now…
If your muscle spasms are simply the result of muscle fatigue, dehydration and/or electrolyte abnormalities (assuming that they are not serious and not chronic), chances are having been prescribed Baclofen isn’t going to be a big deal. You still out to be considered eligible for a Preferred rate assuming that you would otherwise be eligible.
That said however…
If you muscle spasms result from something more “serious”, then the fact that you’ve been prescribed Baclofen really won’t matter all that much because the presence of this more serious pre-existing medical condition will take precedence.
This brings us to the last topic that we wanted to take a moment and discuss, which is…
What can I do to help ensure that I get the “best life insurance” for me?
In our experience here at IBUSA, what we have found that works best for folks who have been diagnosed with a pre-existing medical condition where the “severity” of the condition is often “subjective” is for the applicant to make sure that they first find a true-life insurance professional who will work as an advocate for you.
Such an agent…
Will not only help guide you through the application process but also be perfectly “frank” with you about what options may or may not be possible for you.
From there…
You’ll also want to make sure that the very same agent you have chosen has access to dozens of different life insurance companies because after all, it really doesn’t matter how “great” of a life insurance agent you might have if they don’t have access to the “best” life insurance policy for you! Now, does it?
Lastly…
You’ll want to make sure that you’re completely honest with your life insurance agent prior to applying for coverage. By doing so, you will be helping him or her narrow down what options might be the “best.”
Now, will we be able to help out everyone who has been prescribed Baclofen?
No, probably not. But what we can tell you is that in addition to offering a wide variety of different term and whole life insurance policies, IBUSA has also worked very hard to establish relationships with many of the Best Final Expense Insurance Companies as well.
This way…
If someone isn’t able to qualify for a traditional life insurance policy, chances are there may be some other “type” of product that you CAN qualify for.
So, if you’re ready to see what options might be available to you, just give us a call!
